Swine influenza is not transmitted by the consumption of pork and its derivative products, from when they are handled and cooked properly.

The diagnosis of a swine influenza type A infection is generally made through the laboratory analysis of a sample of secretion from the respiratory system within the first 4 or 5 days of detection of the disease. In the case of children, the spread of the virus can last 10 to more days. The disease can also be diagnosed by testing blood to identify antibodies.
